Between 1972 and 2008, Alan Ayckbourn was the Artistic Director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough. The company was initially founded by Stephen Joseph in 1955 and after his death in 1967, it was only natural that his protégé Alan Ayckbourn should take over the theatre.
